June 2022 Writing Retreat
The Dana on Mission Bay
On June 6 and 7th, 2022 MCTEN convened its second writing retreat with participation of both SDSU and UCSD faculty members. This Writing retreat was a great opportunity to celebrate the end of the MCTEN 2021-2022 year and prepare for the 2022-2023 year.
At the retreat faculty had the choice of indoor and outdoor spaces both for meals and work. All attendees were provided with a comfortable folding/portable chair so they could work anywhere on the grounds. Beside catching up on backlogs in their writing, submitting grant proposals, finishing manuscripts, UCSD and SDSU faculty were able to meet and discuss their research and interests.
This retreat was a great opportunity for both SDSU and UCSD faculty to build connections. To make sure participants had the opportunity to meet a variety of people and connect with other participants, faculty were assigned seating at the dinner based on their interest and hobbies. A campfire social and games night were added events to enhance connections.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to reset and focus on writing without at home and personal distractions. Being surrounded by colleagues doing the same not only helped with accountability but also helped me establish a sense of community that has been largely missing since my 2020 hire. There are not enough thank yous!!”
